ADVISOR PROFILE:
Mike Owens - President and Co-founder of Strategic Legacy Advisors, Inc.
|
|
It was our pleasure to welcome Mike Owens, the President and Co-founder of Strategic Legacy Advisors, Inc. of Lincoln, NB to speak at the May Renaissance Charitable Planning Workshop in Indianapolis. Mike was able to share how his relationship with Renaissance has shaped his practice over the years which have led to the implementation of many creative charitable plans. These plans have captured capital that otherwise would have gone to the government in the form of taxes and have allowed his clients to redirect that capital to their favorite charitable organizations.
Mike shared with the group an example of one of his recent charitable cases that utilized a Grantor Charitable Lead Annuity Trust. This strategy effectively loans cash from the sale of US savings bonds to create an immediate income tax charitable deduction. To minimize “phantom income” from trust income he recommended a tax sensitive investment approach utilizing tax free, tax exempt and tax deferred instruments. The result is that the income tax charitable deduction offsets the tax on the sale of the US savings bonds, the charity enjoys the use of the income distributions and ultimately the trust assets reverts back to the grantor to meet their other financial objectives.
If you would like to learn more about how charitable planning tools can assist you in developing advanced sales, plan now to attend the next Renaissance Charitable Planning Workshop.
